Erica joined the organisation in 2004 as a tutor and, in 2019, took ownership of the training centre, becoming the company’s Director. As both a qualified Clinical Dental Hygienist and the owner of the centre, Erica brings a deep passion for dentistry and education to the role.

2025 marks 30 years of experience in delivering quality training leading to pass rates well above the national average.

Our team is composed entirely of experienced clinical professionals, each specialising in the areas they teach and assess. This ensures that our learners receive relevant, practical, and expert-led training.

At the heart of our ethos is a commitment to delivering outstanding education and support to every learner. Equally important to us is the development of strong, collaborative relationships with the dental practices we partner with. By fostering close connections, we are able to create a supportive learning environment where practices and learners benefit mutually.

We believe that successful training is a partnership. By working with dedicated and high-quality dental practices, our learners receive comprehensive support not only from our team but also within their workplace—setting them up for success in their careers.

Our Team

Erica Clatworthy

Director & Tutor/Assessor and IQA

I qualified as a Dental Nurse in 1996 with this very centre, which I now have the privilege of owning and managing alongside my husband. Although I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Dental Nurse, my passion was always to be the one performing treatments and providing direct patient care. In 2004, I achieved my dream by qualifying as a Dental Hygienist.

The most rewarding aspect of my role is helping patients understand their oral health conditions and witnessing that ‘aha moment’ when they fully grasp the importance of the advice being shared. This trust is the foundation of lasting patient relationships, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to see them return for their dental visits.

Upon qualifying as a Dental Hygienist, I immediately began practicing. At the same time, the dental practice where I worked ran a training centre for Dental Nurses (this centre!), although it operated under a different name then. My colleagues encouraged me to teach oral health topics to Trainee Dental Nurses.

Initially, I was nervous, as I began teaching classes of 40+ students in a tiered lecture theatre at our local hospital. However, I quickly developed a passion for teaching, leading me to complete my PTTLLS qualification (now known as the Award in Education and Training) at Exeter College. In 2011, I developed and implemented a fluoride application scheme at a local school, further blending my passion for clinical practice with education.

Since taking over and rebranding the training centre now known as Dental Nurse Training in October 2019, the business has grown steadily and successfully. We’ve built a strong team of dedicated colleagues and friends who share in our mission to provide exceptional training. I am now a qualified NEBDN examiner and have completed the Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) and the Level 4 award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices (IQA). I am going on to complete the level 4 certificate in early 2025.

Our commitment to this business stems from the profound reward of guiding learners through their journey, helping them succeed, and ultimately achieve their goals. We pride ourselves on offering a holistic approach to learning, tailoring each experience to meet the individual needs of our learners. The satisfaction of seeing our learners succeed and move on to pursue their careers is truly rewarding.

Angela Lee

Radiography Tutor/Assessor

My name is Angela Lee. I have been a qualified dental nurse since 1999 and I gained my radiography qualification in 2015.

I have always had a passion to learn and to pass my knowledge onto others so I decided to move away from general dental practice in 2014. I joined Peninsula dental school as a dental nurse assisting the undergraduate dental and hygiene therapy students. I enjoy this role and find it rewarding helping the students and see them improve in confidence.

I then became acting radiation protection supervisor RPS until I was formally assessed and given the title of the facilities Radiation Safety Lead for Exeter in 2018.

Becoming the Radiation Safety Lead has given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills both practically and with the safety aspects of dental radiography. It was at that time I realised that I would like to teach in this area, I feel I can make a difficult and often boring part of dentistry easier and more fun to understand. I managed to find a course for teaching that would fit around my home life and I completed my level 3 award in education and teaching in February 2021, most recently I completed my CAVA assessors qualification in November 2025.

Outside of work I love spending time with my husband Simon and daughter Ruby. We love to travel whether it be a trip to Disneyworld in Florida or camping in Dorset. We have a dog called Molly and two tortoises called Chewbacca and Harry.

Zoe Peters

Diploma Tutor/Assessor & IQA

I started my career in a small Dental Practice in 1979. I have worked in a vast range of Dental Nursing roles including 15 years in oral surgery.
Over the years I continued with my professional development and qualified in the Radiography and Oral Health post registration courses.
I studied for my Certificate in education and became a full time tutor/Assessor for the NVQ Level 3 with my D32/33 qualification (now known as CAVA). I also hold a City & Guilds, V1, level 4 certificate in conducting internal quality assurance of assessment processes. I examined for the NEBDN for many years before the pandemic and when the exams were face to face.

In recent years I have combined working part time in prison dentistry with running my own Dental Nurse Training centre in Dorset and Somerset. Following COVID-19 I decided to wind down from my own business so I was delighted to be asked to work with Dental Nurse Training as a Diploma assessor and Internal Quality Assurance assurer.

I locum part time as a Dental Nurse, this is another element to the career that I love, being clinical helps me to stay current with all aspects of training.

Outside of work me and my husband Trevor like to travel abroad, as often as we can!

Sarah Dalton

Radiography Tutor/Assessor

Qualifying as a Dental Nurse in 2001, I have gained many year’s experience working within the Dental industry in both NHS & Private practices. I have assisted with General, Endodontic, Orthodontic, Implant, Cosmetic, and more recently, Forensic Dentistry.

I spent a few years Locum nursing throughout the Westcountry which introduced me to Peninsula Dental School in 2010. Here I supported 1st, 2nd and final-year Dental Students

Working with students and within the education setting gave me a real boost and a new lease of interest in dentistry, so when a permanent vacancy came up I jumped at the opportunity.

In 2015 I became the Deputy Clinic Team Lead at Peninsula in Exeter. During my time with Peninsula, I have used my knowledge, skills and experience to support the live clinics and training of Third and Fifth year Dental Students, Third year Dental Therapy students and Trainee Dental Nurses.

I work closely with Angela at the peninsula and as her role grew with Dental Nurse Training she introduced me to Erica so that I could become part of the team and work alongside her. I joined the team in August 2024 and completed my award in education and training In November 2024. I am really excited about expanding my role and incorporating all I know from the peninsula into my role with Dental Nurse Training and vice versa.

Adam Clatworthy

IT Support & Course Development

Before joining the training centre in 2008 I worked as an IT consultant with over 25 years experience in the development and support of both Unix and Windows-based IT systems.

Initially, I provided a platform for Dental Nurse Training to offer bespoke learning content for its NEBDN accredited courses to complement the face-to-face teaching provided by its experienced tutors.

The website assisted students to get access to additional course materials and learning assessments. Our website has continued to grow and is now a well-established NEBDN accredited learning platform for the delivery of Diploma based learning and postgraduate certification for dental nurses.

In October 2019 we acquired and registered Dental Nurse Training as a limited company. We are proud to have been a part of the business for many years and continue to develop and grow our online presence. As an established nationwide training centre, we are passionate about the service we provide and have trained upwards of 1200 students…(and counting)

I continue to work in IT Support working within the NHS whilst supporting our learning platform and developing our learning content.

Emily Bremner

Diploma Tutor/Assessor

I began my career as a Dental Nurse in 2019, successfully completing the NEBDN Diploma in Dental Nursing and qualifying in 2020. I completed my final studies and examinations amidst the challenges of the pandemic, which required a rapid adaptation to remote learning, an experience that reinforced my ability to be organised and resilient.

My work as a Dental Nurse, alongside my experience as an NEBDN witness and a mentor to new trainees, is what truly ignited my passion for teaching. I find immense reward in sharing my practical knowledge and guiding others through their learning journeys. Because I have been in their shoes, I can readily relate to the trainees and identify ways to continuously support and improve their learning experience.

When the opportunity arose to formally join the centre, I was delighted. Erica felt I would be a valuable team member, bringing a fresh perspective to the training centre family. I officially transitioned into the tutor role by attaining the TQUK Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) in November 2023, followed by the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF) in June 2025. I am committed to continued professional development and supporting the next generation of dental nurses.

I love learning and keeping my knowledge up to date, which I continue to do through various courses, my most recent have been:

  • NEBDN Certificate in Oral Health Education
  • Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health
  • Level 2 Certificate in Digital Promotion for Business
  • Teaching English as a foreign language certificate (TEFL)
  • Currently Studying: Level 2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity

Outside of work, I live with my husband, Josh, and our mischievous cat, Marvin. I’m a keen foodie (who also enjoys the occasional glass of wine!) and love exploring the local restaurant scene with friends. My husband and I also share a passion for travel and discovering new cultures, having recently returned from an incredible trip to Japan.

Emily Holroyd

Dental Advisor

I have been a general dental practitioner since 2004 after qualifying from Barts and The London. I am committed to continuing development and obtained The Diploma of Membership of Joint Dental Faculties in 2009 and the Diploma of Restorative Dentistry (Royal College of Surgeons of England) in 2015.

I enjoy all aspects of general dentistry, particularly restorative dentistry, and I aim to provide a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the surgery. I have also assisted on the NEBDN Diploma in Dental Nursing and Radiography courses acting as a witness and mentor for students.

Outside of work I volunteered in Tanzania in with dental charity Bridge2Aid, providing emergency dental treatment and teaching Tanzanian healthcare workers how to extract teeth. I enjoy art, Scandinavian design, baking and photography.
