Duty of Candour
As healthcare professionals we have a legal and ethical obligation to be open, honest, and transparent when things go wrong that cause, or have the potential to cause, harm or distress to a patient or service user. This includes:
- Prompt Disclosure: Informing affected individuals (or their representatives) about incidents as soon as possible.
- Explanation and Apology: Providing a truthful account of what happened, why it happened, and offering a sincere apology.
- Support and Remediation: Taking steps to remedy the situation and prevent recurrence, while offering appropriate support to those affected.
This principle ensures trust, accountability, and continuous improvement within our Dental Nurse Training centre.
2. Responsibility
Responsibility for ensuring the effective implementation and operation of the arrangements will rest with the Course Director ensuring staff operate within this policy and arrangements.
