Course Overview
The BDA Radiography course is a nationally recognised qualification. Upon qualification nurses will gain the BDA Certificate in Dental Radiography that is approved by the GDC, British Society of Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology and the Society and College of Radiographers.
The course is 6-9 months in duration depending on when you begin. Enrolment is monthly, so learners do not have to wait long before they get started.
This qualification will allow nurses, once qualified, to take radiographs without direct supervision but under the prescription of a trained GDC registrant.
Practical portfolio requirements
- 10 panoramic
- 10 pairs of bitewings
- 20 paralleling technique periapical’s
- Lateral cephs and Occlusal views are not mandatory for this course but optional
To be eligible for the course you must:
- Be a GDC registered Dental Nurse
- Have the support of a GDC-registered dentist
- Have access to radiographic equipment necessary to complete the Portfolio.
Examination information
The final BDA exam is online and can be taken from home or at work. It is a 60 minute online multiple choice examination held on a Saturday. Examinations are held every March, September and November.
